9 years ago I gave a talk at IIT Chicago’s Realtime Communications conference I was trying to predict the impact WebRTC would have on communications.
My predictions were not too bad, so I decided to repeat the exercise for this year’s conference, this time looking at the future of WebRTC itself.
My conclusion was that WebRTC usage will become more decentralized, moving from cloud servers out to edge devices - often onto IoT devices.
19 people in my virtual audience were kind enough to test the theory and securely connect, directly, during the talk, to a WebRTC enabled IoT camera on my desk.
